Characteristics of the beach

Son Bou is the longest beach in Menorca: more than 2.5 km of fine and clear sand, with a width of about 50 meters. It is flanked by Cap de ses Penyes to the east and Punta Rodona to the west. Its waters are clean and shallow, perfect for swimming or just relaxing.

In front of its coast stands the Escull de sa Galera, a rocky islet that further embellishes the landscape. The dunes that border the beach protect the local ecosystem and are perfectly preserved.

Ideal for families

Son Bou is perfect to go with children. The beach has a gentle slope, which allows you to enter the water safely, and has a playground and water activities. In addition, it is recognized with the Blue Flag, which guarantees water quality, safety and adequate services.

Beach services

  • Access adapted for people with reduced mobility
  • Public showers and toilets
  • Gastronomic corner with bars and restaurants
  • Rental of deck chairs, umbrellas, canoes, pedal boats and boats
  • Water sports area
  • Color-flagged guard and aid post

⚠️ Remember to respect the indications of the lifeguards and the meaning of the flags.

El Prat de Son Bou: a natural treasure

Behind the beach stretches the Prat de Son Bou, a protected wetland area of about 80 hectares. This wetland is the habitat of many aquatic birds and an ideal place for birdwatching. Its access is regulated to preserve the environment.

The early Christian basilica

At the eastern end of the urbanization are the remains of a paleochristian basilica from the 5th century A.D. It was a church with three naves, vestibule, portico and a small cemetery. Although it was destroyed by fire in the 18th century, its ruins can still be visited today.

Atalis, the virgin cove

To the west of Son Bou, walking along the shore, you reach Atalis, a virgin cove without services, quiet and very frequented by those who practice naturism. From here you can connect with the Camí de Cavalls to Sant Tomàs or Prat de Son Bou.

What to do at Son Bou beach

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, there are many activities to enjoy in this area:

  • Snorkeling in crystal clear waters
  • Exploration of Prat de Son Bou
  • Hiking along the Camí de Cavalls
